Read on about how Casey chose the color scheme and accessories for her new bedroom.

Q. Where did you start?

A. Casey: "At first I was overwhelmed with ideas. There were just so many things I wanted to include. I was sure that I wanted bright colors and I loved pink, just as I did when I was ten, but I really had outgrown the powder pink.

"Also, I really wanted to add a fresh twist to my white-painted antique furniture. But most importantly, the main goal was to have a pulled-together overall look.

"I decided to start with bedding because it would be one of the biggest elements in the room. With that in hand I could then work out from that. After looking at what seemed like a million bedsets, I decided on a bright turquoise number with a pattern of colorful oversized flowers.

"Next came paint color. I looked at paint swatches and compared them to my comforter colors until I decided on a gorgeous hot pink. After much thought, I decided to paint my furniture an eye-popping turquoise color (see my furniture before and after photos by clicking on the comforter photo on page 1. to tie the hot pink of the walls and the colors in the comforter together."

Q. What finishing touches did you add?

A. Casey: "To balance out the intense pink of the walls, I added turquoise accessories and funky additions here and there. To glamorize my classic ceiling fan, I hung an over-sized turquoise sequin ornament (see photo above). As for wall decorations, I made a collage of Abercrombie catalog photos for my own twist on a boy-toy poster. In addition to that, I added a few cool framed posters and hung a perfect turquoise beaded mirror by the bed."

Q. What about the adjoining bath?

A. Casey: "I decided to update my bathroom by using the same hot pink walls, which perfectly complemented the turquoise mini-blinds I already had. A new brightly colored polka-dot shower curtain and flower-decked rug were also added. To separate my bedroom from my bathroom and closet, I installed a set of turquoise and aqua beaded curtains."

Q. Are you happy with the final look of your new room ?

A. Casey: "My room makeover couldn't have turned out better. I was a little unsure of how it would turn out, but it's really ten times better than I expected. Instead of the hot pink being overpowering, it's uplifting and energizing. Best of all, my bedroom went from being simply a place to sleep to being my own domain."
