There's More to Decorating Styles Than Just French Country and Shabby Chic

From , former About.com Guide

See More About:

We all know the basic home decorating styles: French Country, Art Deco, Traditional and so on. But rarely do any of us decorate in just one style or another. Styles evolve, blend together, and become reflections of who we are as individuals. We take pieces from many different styles and create our own looks. Over the years certain mini-styles have evolved. Some are trends sure to fade away, while others are very accessible and probably here to stay.

1. New Vintage

Floral teacups, chipped furniture, faded fabrics – new vintage (or Granny chic) is one of the most popular looks around.

2. Exotic Traditional

Even traditionalists need to rebel a little every now and then, and what better way to do it than with color?

3. Earthy Modern

Think modern means cold? Think again! This look is all about bringing warmth and texture to clean modernism.

4. Refined Industrial

The term 'industrial' can have some homeowners running for the hills, but this look isn't as cold as it sounds.

5. Global Fusion

The items you own should tell the story of your life, and global fusion tells the story of a life well travelled (don't worry, you can fake it too).

6. Edgy Classic

Edgy Classic is perfect for traditionalists who like to add a little of the unexpected. (You're the kind of girl who wears a little black dress accessorized with hot pink shoes.)

7. Princess Preppy

If you want your home to look like Charlotte's from Sex and the City this is the look for you.

8. Flirty Feminine

This look is flirty and fun, but never too "girl-ish".

9. Weathered European

Pretty, romantic and full of old-world style, the weathered European look is all about infusing your home with a sense of history.

10. Miami Chic

The best way to describe Miami Chic is crisp, cool and sleek. It's minimal and modern yet it's got style to spare.
