Floral teacups, chipped furniture, faded fabrics – new vintage (or Granny chic) is one of the most popular looks around. The difference between the new version and your grandma's house is that the look now is more tailored than it was. Overstuffed chairs are a thing of the past with tailored pieces in intentionally faded and deconstructed upholstery taking over. Keep things light and soft with this look and use dark woods sparingly.

Handmade accessories are increasing in popularity and that's good news for shoppers on a budget. Decoupage items and silhouette artwork (made by you if you feel so inclined) can mix the best of the past and the present. A touch of lace can add femininity but beware of the doily – it can take a look from granny chic to just plain dated.
