The Entryway
- Use wall hooks to create an open coat closet where there isn't one. Use baskets to hold smaller items like scarves and hats to minimize clutter.
- Wall sconces over a console table provide plenty of light while freeing up space.
- Create an entryway in an open space with a small chest of drawers and a side chair. It will define the space while giving you plenty of storage.
The Living Room
- Use a backless daybed as living room furniture and place it right in the middle of the room. It gives people a place to perch without blocking the view. At night it turns into a sleeping area.
- Forgo the coffee table in a tiny space. If you really need a surface use a small ottoman that can serve several purposes. When it needs to serve as a table place a tray on it.
- Place a piece of fabric or some large pieces of art in front of or over crammed bookshelves. It will help cover the clutter.
The Dining Room
- Use a corner banquette to maximize seating in a small dining room. You can squeeze more people on it and you can store things underneath.
- Push the table up against the window. You'll save a lot of floor space and it can be pulled back out for parties when you need more seating.
- Use large mirrors to open up the space and make it feel larger. If possible hang one opposite a window.
The Kitchen
- Use pullout vertical shelves to maximize space. They can fit a ton of stuff and you don't have to worry about losing things at the back of the shelves.
- Use the walls by mounting organizers. You can use them for tons of things without taking u floor or cabinet space.
- Use open shelves instead of upper cabinets with doors. It lightens the look significantly (but you'll need to keep your items organized to keep it from looking cluttered).
The Bedroom
- If there's no space for bedside tables install a floating shelf above the bed. It can give the illusion of a headboard while providing a place for all your bedtime necessities.
- If closet doors are a problem take them off and install a curtain instead.
- Hang sconces instead of using bedside lamps to save a ton of space.
The Bathroom
- Pedestal sinks are beautiful but they take up space without providing storage. Opt for a cabinet unit instead.
- Install shelving above the toilet instead of hanging art or a mirror. You can hide things in baskets and place them on the shelves for a clean and organized look.
- Install hooks on the back of the door to hang towels and housecoats.
