Lighting candles and playing soft music aren't the only ways to add romance to a room. If you want to give your room a little romantic flair check out some of these romantic decorating ideas.

Add a Little Gold

A little gold can go a long way when it comes to romantic decorating. A gilt sconce, a gilt and crystal chandelier, or a gilt-framed mirror are terrific options. You can also use a little gold wallpaper or pickup some gilt-leaf pieces at a craft store and try gilding a small side chair or table What's great about gilt is that it gives that antiqued feeling which is inherently romantic.

Use Wrought Iron

Wrought iron scrollwork is curvy and beautiful. Look for pieces like wrought iron console tables, fireplace screens, or even side chairs. If that's little further than you want to go, you can find wrought iron pieces to hang on the wall in many home stores and garden centers.

Decorate with Silk

Silk and romance go hand in hand, so if romantic decorating is your passion, don't skimps on silk. A great way to incorporate a lot of silk is with full length draperies, but it isn't the only way. Upholster a pair of chairs, buy a silk screen, or use a bunch of silk throw pillows.

Make the Most of Curves

Curves are sexy, so make sure to use them liberally in your space. Sofas with curved legs, serpentine chests, sculptural lamps – these are all great ways to bring some romantic shapes into a room. Just be sure to use a straight piece here and there to create some balance.

Add Embellishments

When it comes to romantic decorating more is more. Add tassels to pillows, ribbon details to lampshades, and add pretty accessories everywhere. Drape fabric over a canopy bed, add a lace border to a quilt and put some candles throughout your home.

Decorate with Flowers

A room isn't romantic until it has some flowers in it. Stick with soft and pretty colors and go for traditionally romantic flowers like roses and magnolias.
