You don't have to be celebrating a holiday to know that home furnishings and accessories look great in red, white and blue.

At no time during the year do they seem more appropriate than in July, when flags and fireworks are everywhere, and summer is in full swing. But these great colors look good in both contemporary and traditional settings.

Summer begins with July 4th for many of us, and with it comes memories of camp, baseball, and BBQs. If you'd like your home interiors to capture that feeling year 'round, then a red, white and blue color scheme might be perfect for you. Check out some great ideas in our feature on decorating with denim blues.

Flag-inspired touches of red and white stripes, blue ticking fabrics, and stars in all sizes and colors look great against a clean, whitewashed beadboard walls. Add navy upholstery and you'll have a winning room that offers the feeling of a summertime oasis all year.

Patriotic dinnerware, table linens and centerpieces look great indoors or out. Use blue as a great grounding color, bringing in touches of white and bright red for accent. You can use plain white dishes that will practically sparkle against this color scheme or navy or red dishes for even more color on your summer table.

To enjoy the outdoors, think hammocks, gazebos, and comfortable outdoor furniture, and add touches of red, white and blue in flowers, furnishings, and accessories. Galvanized tin buckets, painted wood, and homey twig touches will all live beautifully together.
