Potter Debbie Walsh has found a way to capture the beauty of a fragile doily so that it can be enjoyed every day.

She's always had an admiration for the simple and timeless beauty of old-fashioned doilies. She's seen them matted and individually framed, used as a base for a beautiful vase, used as photograph boarders in scrapbooks, wrapped around a glass vase, and even embroidered onto scarves. These are all wonderful ways to give old tatted, crocheted, or cutwork doilies a new life.

Several years ago, Debbie discovered the art and craft of pottery. She began by using stamps to transfer some unique designs or nice sayings into the clay and made some cute ceramic plates and bowls for gifts for friends and family.

But the vintage doily was always in the back of her mind. She began to experiment with transferring the beautiful designs from delicate pieces of lace into the clay. The result was amazing.

Debbie transfers the designs into the clay and then works it into various shapes of plates or small bowls. The clay is then dried and bisque fired in the kiln.

After removing the pieces from the kiln, they are painted, glazed, and fired in the kiln again. This final firing produces the beautiful colors that make her pieces unique.

Debbie Walsh's very special pieces of hand-crafted pottery can be used to accentuate a home decorated in a Shabby Chic style, Victorian style, or in any country decor. These unique ceramic pieces capture the timeless beauty of the vintage doily in a fresh new way.
