One of the reasons the homes in magazines always look so beautiful is because there isn't a speck of dust or dirt to be found anywhere. And while they may not be realistic in everyday life, part of having a beautiful home means regular cleaning. To keep your home looking spic and span there are some essential cleaning supplies you should always have on hand.

(Note: I encourage people to find all-natural and environmentally friendly products whenever possible. Not only are they better for the environment but they're also better for your health as you won't be breathing in any harsh chemicals.)

Essential Cleaning Supplies: Keep all of these items on hand and you should have everything you need to tackle cleaning jobs large and small around your home.
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Bucket (10-gallon is best)
  • Dust mop
  • Sponge mop
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Biodegradable laundry detergent
  • Tile cleaner
  • Microfiber cloths (They act like magnets for dust and can be used wet or dry.)
  • Rubber gloves (Have a few on hand so you can throw them out after taking on particularly dirty jobs like scrubbing the toilet.)
  • Reusable or disposable wipes
  • Baking Soda and Vinegar (When used in different combinations and diluted with water they can be used instead of many chemical cleaners. For instance a few tablespoons of vinegar mixed with water makes a great glass cleaner while baking soda diluted with a bit of water is a great counter and oven cleaner.)

It may not be the most glamorous part of keeping house, but any home, no matter how beautifully decorated, won't look very good if it isn't kept clean. If you keep these items on hand you'll have everything you need to keep even the most humble space looking great.
