Decide If You Can "Go It Alone"

Even if you can afford to hire a professional Interior Decorator, you may prefer to do the work yourself. There's great satisfaction in being able to say, "I did it myself!"

If you answer yes to any of the questions below, you might be ready and qualified to be the project manager and decision maker for your home decorating work.

  • Is your favorite thing to do, more than anything else, to decorate your home?

  • Do you spend all your free time looking at decorating magazines and shopping at decorator shops?

  • Do you have more ideas for decorating than you have rooms to decorate?

  • Are you creative and artistic?

  • Do you generally love your home but want to spruce it up?

  • Will changing the paint color and curtains make all the change you desire in your home?

  • Do you have time to shop for your decorating items?

  • When you shop for your home, can you find everything you like in local stores or online?

  • Are you on a limited budget and need to save as much money as you can?

  • Do you enjoy researching items and shopping on the internet?

  • Do you and your housemate see eye to eye on color schemes and decorating styles?

  • Have you chosen a color scheme and just can't wait to see it in your home?

  • If you have limited financial resources, do you save money until you can buy what you really want?

  • Are you confident in your abilities to coordinate colors and styles and don't want a stranger to tell you what to do or buy?

  • Is there someone in your life who can help you move furniture, hang things high, and give you honest encouragement and criticism?

  • Have you found pages and pages of magazine pictures of rooms you love and are just itching to see the look in your home?

  • Are you willing to deal with the frustrations of ordering, receiving, returning, and installing decorating elements?

  • If you don't find what you want right away, are you willing to look at more paint chips, fabric swatches, or wallpaper books until you find your dream look?

  • Do you feel that, when all is said and done, you're the only one who can make things look right?

If you can honestly say "yes" to any or some of the questions above, you probably should take on the task of doing your own decorating. You'll feel so very proud when the job is done.

If you're not sure, read some questions to help you decide if you should hire a professional Interior Designer to decorate your home.
