Any shape you can dream up -- scrolls, arches, clouds, or points -- might be perfect for a window cornice or pelmet. Make a pattern on folded paper then unfold the design and cut it out of wood with a scroll saw. Next, staple foam or batting over the wood to pad the front, then cover your creation with fabric, trimming the edges with decorative braid or other dressmaker trim. Mount the cornice high enough so the bottom edge skims over the top of the window glass and away from the wall far enough to easily accommodate drapery hardware and pleats.
