Question: I'm interested in learning more about using an interior decorator for Color Consultation. What is the price range and how much time should I expect to spend with a consultant?

Answer: A color consultation is a wonderful way to get ideas from a designer.

As to what the service would entail -- this is something you'll need to ask each designer, since each will have their own way of working. Some consult on an hourly fee, some flat fee, some percentage of any purchases.

The amount of designer time needed would depend entirely on the size and complexity of your project, and whether you just want general suggestions or a detailed color plan with wallpaper samples, etc. which would obviously take more time.

Discuss all of your questions with any designers you interview. Also be sure ask for their suggestions on how to proceed. It will help if you really think about what you want for your home (have available some favorite magazine photos, fabric samples, or paint chips you like), what exactly you need from them, and how much you are willing to spend. Then communicate all of this so there is a clear understanding of the project on both sides.
