A grand 1920's Spanish Colonial Revival mansion was selected for the 2003 Pasadena Showcase House of Design in Pasadena, California. Situated on a hill, the property features outstanding views of the Arroyo, the old Colorado Street Bridge, and the San Gabriel Mountains, on grounds that offer secluded gardens, arbors, a pond, and spectacular swimming pool terrace.
The home originally cost $50,000 to build and incorporated a number of antique elements purchased by the owners, including a gilded door (in the dining room) and floor tiles (in the grand entry) from a 12th century monastary in Granada.
Two years ago new owners took possession of the property and began a 4,000 square foot addition that included a new kitchen, family room, pool and cabana. Designers for the showcase were able to work with the builder to incorporate finishing details that would compliment their designs for the home.
Designers honored the home's history as well as the existing colors found in floors, exteriors, and architectural details, using a set color palette of neutrals that included ivory, gold, brown, and black along with sage green, butter yellow, rose red, and teal blue. The 2003 Pasadena Showcase House of Design is open through May 18th. Preview some of our favorite spaces in these photos of The Salon, the
