Blue and white china is traditional and beautiful against a tablecloth of white, pink, yellow, blue, or even red. Keep it simple, however, so the china can be the "star".

Using a tiered serving plate is another traditional touch. This one features 2 Spode plates. However, it is easy to make your own tiered serving piece. You'll need 2 plates (dinner and salad size), a glass tumbler, and some floral clay.

Place some floral clay around the top rim of the glass. Set the glass upside down in the center of the largest plate, so that the clay joins the two pieces. Use more floral clay on the base of the glass (now facing up) to attach the salad plate to the top. Hide the floral clay under a few sprigs of leaves or ivy, if desired.

This tablesetting is accented by a fresh floral centerpiece of white and purple iris and a few pink roses. Other flowers beautiful with blue and white china include white roses, red roses, peonies, blue or pink hydrangia, blue delphinium, or ranuncula.

Another sweet idea with blue and white is a berry theme. In addition to (or instead of) a flower centerpiece, fill a large crystal bowl full of ripe fresh strawberries or raspberries Garnish with some tiny mint leaves or flower buds. Bowls of whipped cream, sour cream, and brown sugar will ensure that the berries are enjoyed by all of your guests.

Polish your best silver trays, bowls, and serving pieces to use for your party, and add a paper doily to the tray before adding food. Then garnish the plate with a few leaves, berries, or flowers. Here some lemon leaves decorate the scone tray, and fresh raspberries are piled up for a colorful accent.
