Kitchen Flooring, Lighting, and Hardware

More Things to Focus on When Planning Your Kitchen

From About.com

Many products are used for countertops including tile, granite, wood, and molded resin. What you choose will be determined by the look you want and what sort of work will be done there. While natural surfaces are handsome and rich looking, some of the synthetic products are more durable.

Flooring in a kitchen should be durable and attractive. Cleanups are much easier with a hard surface floor, such as tile, hardwood, marble, or concrete. Regardless of what type of flooring you select, be sure it has good cushioning, since you’ll be standing on it for a long time.

Lighting in the kitchen can be hidden or exposed, but should be planned to provide illumination at many levels for all the work spaces. Recessed lighting, under-cabinet lights, small lamps, and chandeliers all have a place in a kitchen.

The hardware and fixures in a kitchen is like jewelry for the room. Whether you select shiny chrome faucets and knobs or antique finished brass, brushed nickel, or burnished copper, the style should both blend with the style of the whole space and enhance it.

Remodeling a kitchen is a big project and should not be attempted in a free weekend. With so many things to think about, work it through in your mind and on paper. Get ideas from home centers, magazines, books, and kitchen design stores. With sufficient planning, your new kitchen will give you years of enjoyment. Happy planning!
