Part 3: Details Make the DifferenceMore lighting projects to add convenience...
Convenience Switches
Browse your local home center for "convenience switches" including motion activated and light-sensing models. These will turn on lights automatically in problem areas like dark basement stairways, garages, and attics, or in any space where you might enter with your hands full such as a laundry room or baby nursery.
Dim Those Bulbs
It's a fairly simple process to install dimmer switches around your home. Using dimmers will help turn down the lights for quiet dinners, up for homework, or at a medium setting for general lighting. Dimming a light will also greatly lengthen the life of the bulb, so it's a terrific money-saver as well. Choose from dials or slider switches and get the type that is made for your particular electrical configuration.

Picture Lights
Wonderful artwork deserves to be specially lit. Find a variety of picture lighting options with these links, or browse your local lighting stores or home centers for fixtures.
Cord Switches
These handy gadgets install on any electrical cord in less than five minutes. They are available in widths to fit various cord sizes. The actual switch can be a roller, a rocking tab, or a tiny on/off bar. Place these on lamp cords to make turning them on more convenient, or install on extension cords for any type of light application. Look around your home to see where it might be easier to flick a switch than to fumble around for a fixture's less than convenient on/off buttons. (Make sure the switch you purchase is rated to handle the cord and appliance it will work.) |
