Fall leaves in a twig basket are a natural for a mantle. Use real leaves or the preserved type, adding in a few wheat stalks and artificial berry stems for texture.

Bookend the arrangement with your choice of vases (as shown here), candlesticks, or potted plants.

• armful of real or preserved fall leaves
• twig basket
• wheat stalks, twigs, artificial berries
• pair of vases, candlesticks or plants

Make your own arrangement of fall leaves or purchase one at a craft store or florist. Add interest to the leaves by inserting some wheat stalks and artificial berry branches.

Flank the basket with a pair of vases, candlesticks, or potted plants.
