Part 3: Designer Tips from Judy Alto
Judy Alto's Design Tips:
In every room, identify the focal point, the prominent feature that draws your eye into the room and position your seating to address it.
Pay attention to weight and scale of your furniture pieces. Balance the room by using three heights of furniture. i.e. tall pieces, such as a secretary or armoire, mid-height, like a chest or sofa, and low items like coffee tables, ottomans etc. This mix of heights ensures visual variety.

Dramatic wall color gives instant warmth, while a new furniture arrangement and more accessories add interest and sparkle.
Are you light poor? Illuminate your room with not only task lighting but add ambiance lighting to enhance your artwork. Add soft low lighting to your large plants and neglected corners.
Hang artwork in proportion to the expanse of the wall. Avoid scattering or hanging small prints on large walls. Add textured items to your art groupings for added interest.
Find a common thread in your accessories and band them together. Don't feel as if you have to display all your collectibles. Perk up your tired rooms throughout the year by rotating your displays.
