Then comes the dilemma of what to put in the center of the table. Fortunately that challenge is easily solved. With a few minutes of planning and some basic materials on hand -- candlesticks, candles, fruit, greenery -- you can create something beautiful in a very short time.

Cranberry Tray
Fill a shallow tray with bright red cranberries. Top with votive candles.

Tip: Cranberries contain moisture that may damage a wooden tray. Protect it with plastic or foil or use a plastic tray instead.

Platter Centerpiece
Use fruit to make an impressive centerpiece that's very inexpensive.

Tip: Add flowers at the last minute and they'll stay fresh for your party.

Ring of Fruit
Set three candlesticks on a tray and surround them with a ring of fall fruit.

Tip: Use real, beaded, or artificial fruit.

Who says candlesticks are only for candles? Top them with fruit or ornaments for an unusual table decoration.

Tip: Heights and levels make it interesting while repetition adds harmony.

Pears and Leaves
Pile fruit, nuts, and acorns into a bowl and garnish with a few fall leaves.
