How organized are you?

Jul 1 2003

If you've ever wished you were more organized, then the Dymo LetraTag may just be the product that makes your day.

Home organization is an ongoing process that needs not only a good system, but a commitment to continuing your organizing efforts.

To that end, marking and labeling is one of the best defenses against creeping clutter. That's why we love the new Dymo LetraTag Labelmaker.

This is one organizational tool that won't gather dust on the shelf. Retailing for $44.99 U.S., it may quickly become one of the most-used tools in your home.

Once you pop six AA batteries into the LetraTag, simply slip in a cartridge of half-inch tape and you're ready to label whatever needs identification. The tapes are available in several colors of paper, plastic, or metallic. In addition you can buy a cartridge filled with iron-on fabric tape that's perfect for labeling any washable fabric items -- like jackets, school clothes, or T-shirts for summer camp.

The LetraTag tape cartridges (which retail for $7.99) feature an ingenious way to taking off the paper backing as well. The backing is slit lengthwise so simply bend the tape and strip off the backing prior to sticking down a label. If you've ever used other types of labels you'll appreciate this feature every time you use the machine.

The labelmaker is designed to sit comfortably in the palm of your hand. Create beautiful labels by selecting from editing features that include bold, a selection of font sizes, outline mode, underline, big caps, and a variety of symbols. Preview each label in the LCD display window before printing, cutting, and affixing the label. And, once a label is in memory you can print it as many times as you wish and the LetraTag will also remember it even it the power is turned off.

As for uses -- you may be tempted to label everything in sight, including:

  • Pantry and linen closet shelves
  • File folders
  • Computer cables
  • School supplies
  • Luggage tags
  • Food containers
  • Storage boxes
  • Tools and supplies
  • Computer diskettes
  • Film canisters
  • Cosmetics
  • Travel supplies
  • ID tags
  • Video tapes
  • Clothing (using the special iron-on label tape)

We're guessing you are looking around right now at all of the places were a label would be a good idea.

Here's our tip: be sure to stock up on the tape cartridges so you don't run out!
