When I worked in high-end home decor retail it always struck me how worried my clients were about things looking just right. They were so concerned that their houses look "perfect" that they forgot to have fun. They did their research and consulted designers, but the one thing they lacked was passion. For me it's so important that my home be a place where I'm comfortable, happy and surrounded by things I love. I want it to look nice, but nice according to my rules, not anyone else's. I may have some funny-looking things, but each and every piece I own means something to me. I have fun with my decor, and that's something my former clients didn't seem to have. I encourage everyone - no matter how big or small your home, and no matter how much money you have - to decorate with passion. Create a space you love and you'll be happier for it.

I wish that I could describe this as eloquently! Walking into another’s “staged” home gives me an uneasy feeling…like I should be putting the floor saver booties on and stay standing. What is so interesting and exciting, is having a glimpse into who the owner is, with what they love around their own little living space. Exhibiting one’s home to their liking, surrounded with inspiration is akin to seeing a brilliant novel!
I could not agree more; decorate for you. I do collect things and realized that I don’t have to display them all at once; I now like to store the extras and rotating and switching out the collections freshens up the house, whether it’s every other week or every other month, or switch out with the season changes. I made zippered pillow covers; cheap and easy to refresh the throw pillows. Have fun with decorating.
That’s what it’s really all about, isn’t it? Having fun!
