Your comment about using monochromatic color scheme really hit home. My small apartment livingroom now has a feeling of depth to it when I put a wall decal design up. I used the wall decals from http://www.wallslicks.com because they have a huge variety of colors. I got the same design in two different colors, one that basically matched my livingroom wall color, and the second just a shade different. I placed them on the wall so one looked like the shadow of the other. Amazing how that opened the room up.
