Keep Cool This Summer With a Ceiling Fan

Monday June 2, 2008
We had weather in the 90's last week and summer isn't here yet! Unfortunately, the ceiling fan in my guest room has swirled its last hot air. I'll have to get it replaced before the next heat wave which I know will be here soon!

I'm trying to conserve energy and I hate the thought of having the air conditioner going all the time for the next two or three months, with little relief in sight.

I've found that a great way to keep rooms cool without air conditioning is with a ceiling fan. I've installed one in each of my upstairs bedrooms and the one in my bedroom keeps me comfortable and cool all night. Our article on Ceiling Fans will answer some questions you might have and convince you that a ceiling fan is a great help in keeping your home cool during the summer without air conditioning. Learn about which way the fan should rotate and how you can save energy costs with a ceiling fan. And don't forget to check out our video on how to clean a ceiling fan.

You must not live in the southern states. In Florida you can’t live with just ceiling fans in the summer or you will roast. Central A.C. is a must.

i agree with your comments….a ceiling fan is such a natural element with hot weather and useful in the winter too! i hate to run the a/c continuously…way too expensive…but we live in central california where temps are easily in the 100’s for weeks…we don’t have to be that cold in the summer, do we really need refrigerated air all the time….what did people do b/4 there was a/c…..anyway, i love our ceiling fans, and when we pull down the blinds, we have lovely coolness…not 68 degrees granted, but we are really happy to when the electricity bill comes and we owe less than everyone else!! hahah! enjoy your summer!

In reference to the south,(if you watch national news, it has been alot hotter, in other areas of the country) and ac being a must. This is especially true if you live in a trailer,(mobile home),as they are not made as well as constructed, permanent houses and they do not have the insulation, that would be required to keep a house cool, with just ceiling fans. However, with ceiling fans, I would assume that a person would be able to set the thermostat at a lessor degree and the air circulated would help maintain a cooler temperature, without having to run the AC Unit so hard.Keep in mind that I am only assuming this, as I have never lived in a trailer. The same assumption is for regular permanant dwellers. We all have the same goal in mind. That is to stay cool and conserve energy and cost.I appreciate the original article,I, personally, am always open for good advice. If I can’t use it to my benefit, maybe I can pass it along to someone else, whom it applies to.
