How to Set Up a Great Dorm Room

By August 1, 2007

Follow me on:

I don't know of a single college dorm room that isn't terribly tiny and as bare and unwelcoming as one can imagine. But you don't have to cram everything onto the bed and desk and just settle.

My sister and her two college student kids have figured out just what almost any dorm room could use to be more organized and efficient. She offers her suggestions in this article Dorm Room Organizing Ideas From Someone Who Knows.

By starting out with folding shelving, closet organizers, bath totes (like these from Bed Bath & Beyond), and hooks, you'll be on the road to a well-organized home-away-from-home.

About.com's Guide to Furniture, Fred Albert, has some great tips on finding dorm furniture. Check them out!

Hi Coral,

Just wanted to say thanks for the tips here. Really helped me out. Another thing I wanted to mention though are blinds. The right type of window treatments really makes a dorm more livable, or it did for me at least!

I figured I’d share a handy little site I found to get blinds at a great price. Its http://www.blindsexpress.com

These guys saved me a bundle when I decided to put up some blinds in my dorm. They’ll even send you free samples so that you can make the right choice! I loved it!

Thanks again for all the tips Coral, I look forward to more!

Ryan
